Millions of people in the world suffer from chronic kidney disease (CKD), a clinical condition derived from permanent loss of kidney function and that can be progressive, for which treatment and control then need to use the substitution method known as hemodialysis .

More than three thousand Cubans receive this type of procedure for free.

The procedure, in addition to increasing the patient’s survival, serves as a preparation for renal transplantation, which is longed for by those affected and which undoubtedly has a positive impact on their quality of life.

Cuba has more than 40 years of professional experience in relation to this disease, the Cuban health system has dedicated much of its work to investigate and reveal to us what this complex disease involves, whose prevention, identification and control of associated risks are essential pieces For the health system of any nation.

Three times a week patients share a common space, in a “battle” that together they fight for life, and in which both patients and health professionals win winners after approximately four hours that requires a session of hemodialysis.

In addition, patients receive a free transportation service to the hospital and back home.
