Havana, Cuba.- More than 95 thousand children were immunized in Cuba during 2018 with the triple viral vaccine (PRS), highlights the United Nations Children”s Fund in Cuba (Cuba-Unicef).
At present, the largest island of the Antilles has vaccination coverage of more than 98 percent, with 11 preparations that protect against 13 diseases, several of them of national production.
Polio, diphtheria, measles, whooping cough, and rubella are among the diseases that attack immune-gens.
According to the World Health Organization (WTO), immunization prevents diseases, disabilities and deaths from diseases preventable by vaccination, such as cervical cancer, diphtheria, hepatitis B, measles, mumps, pertussis and pneumonia. Also, adds WHO, poliomyelitis, diarrheal diseases caused by rotavirus, rubella and tetanus.
The agency points out that if world vaccination coverage were improved, 1.5 million deaths could be avoided.
