Under the slogan “All rights for all people” began today in Cuba the XII Edition of the Cuban Days Against Homophobia and Trans-phobia.

The campaign – which will be aligned with the initiative Rewrite happiness – will be led by the National Center for Sex Education (Cenesex) and will run until May 18.

This initiative has been carried out since 2008 with the purpose of contributing to the education of the whole society, with emphasis on the family and young people, respect for the right to free and responsible sexual orientation and gender identity.

Among the objectives of the day are: make visible, combat and overcome all forms of discrimination and violence based on gender, especially those associated with sexual orientation or gender identity.

Promote the actions and results of the institutional, political and governmental work of the country in favor of respecting the full dignity of people with non-hetero-normative sexuality.

Also, the day seeks respect and acceptance of people with HIV with an emphasis on vulnerable groups.

The International Day against Homophobia, Transphobia and Biphobia is celebrated on May 17 to commemorate the elimination of homosexuality in 1990 from the list of mental illnesses by the World Health Organization.
